Are you stressed about “Keeping up with the Joneses?”
Miriam O. Ezenwa, PhD, RN, FAAN
Greetings, my people! This Christmas season, are you “keeping up with the Joneses” by getting in debt to buy presents you cannot afford? It’s not necessary when you keep up with Jesus by focusing on the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is not about competition. It’s about compassion. Christmas is not about giving presents to feel like you belong. It’s about being present with those who belong with you — family and friends. Christmas is not about “keeping up with the Joneses,” who outwardly appear joyous but inwardly may be miserable. It’s about keeping up with Jesus by sharing love, care, and a meal with family and friends. Do yourself a favor. Plan a less stressful Christmas by giving three things that really matter—unconditional love, undivided attention, and peaceful existence. Give material presents, if you can afford them. Just remember what they are —material love.
I wish you strength, always!
